Bukayo Saka Faces Extended Injury Layoff as Arsenal’s Attack Falters

Arsenal’s talisman, Bukayo Saka, 23, faces an extended injury setback.

He tore his right hamstring on December 21 during the 5-1 victory at Crystal Palace. Consequently, the England international has been absent from the pitch since before Christmas.

Unfortunately, the injury woes do not stop with Saka. Furthermore, Gabriel Jesus suffered an ACL injury last month, which will keep him out for much of 2025. In addition, the club has been rocked by further setbacks in their attacking line.

Moreover, following a mid-season warm-weather trip to Dubai, it emerged that top goalscorer Kai Havertz underwent hamstring surgery. As a result, he will miss the remainder of the campaign. Additionally, Gabriel Martinelli is sidelined for around a month after picking up an injury against Newcastle.

According to The Sun, Saka is expected to be out until mid-April. Thus, head coach Mikel Arteta now has to manage with only three forwards at his disposal. Specifically, Leandro Trossard, Raheem Sterling, and teenager Ethan Nwaneri remain available for selection.

In the winter transfer window, Arsenal opted not to sign a new forward. Instead, they attempted to bolster their attacking options but ended up “disappointed.” Arteta confirmed, “We had a clear intention which is obvious. There is a window open to explore the possibilities to improve our squad with players that can impact it.”

Moreover, Arteta expressed his disappointment in not securing a forward who met their strict criteria. He explained, “We haven’t achieved it. So we are disappointed in that sense but as well we are very aware that we only want to bring a certain kind of players.” Therefore, the club remains disciplined in its transfer approach.

When pressed on whether the January decisions might affect summer plans, Arteta emphasized financial prudence and the need for impact players. He noted that Arsenal will continue to seek players who can make a difference. Consequently, the club plans to build on the strategy that has taken them this far.

In conclusion, Arsenal now faces a challenging period with four key forwards out of action. Meanwhile, they trail Premier League leaders Liverpool by seven points. Can Arsenal overcome these setbacks and mount a title challenge? Fans remain hopeful, yet the road ahead appears steep.
