The match was abandoned to not start anymore after two men identified as Swedish Fans were shot dead in the streets of Brussels.
Police is shot and wounded the suspect as the killer reported to have lost his life after committing the brutal crime.
The police treated the case as a terrorist brutal attack. The authorities have raised the levels of the security to the highest levels with the city that will need to live under total surveillance for the next few days.
The Prime minister De Croo said about the accident that it was intentional.
“Last night three people left for what was supposed to be a wonderful soccer party.”
“The perpetrator targeted specifically Swedish supporters who were in Brussels to attend a Red Devils soccer match. Two Swedish compatriots passed away. A third person is recovering from severe injures,” De Croo said.
Considering the distance between the stadium and the shooting location, only 5 kilometres and the fact that the victims were two Swedish fans, the authorities in the stadium decided to interrupt the game. The stadium was noticed about the incident with the fans that were anxious about what happened in the stadium.
What is next?
UEFA should open an investigation about the circumstances of this criminal act and should collaborate with the local authorities to increase the security before the game. Police control must be a criteria for all the persons that operate in the perimeter of the stadium.
Teams must have a protocol to add safety before the game in order to prevent any criminal act and prevent losing lives.
