Ukraine played against England the most important game of the group. They chose to interpret the game as a 4-1-1-4 and had many options upfront with Mudryk and Victor Tsyganov playing as wingers. Zinchenko was acting as an attacking midfielder and the spaces he left behind were minimal. He is by far the best player that this national team has.
After the subs Ukraine played a 4-3-3 and the team entered five subs including Yehor Nazaryna, who replaced Mudryk at the end. He played only a couple of minutes and he is not included in the second-average formation.
Player Average Positions
Heorhiy Bushchan was one of the best players in Ukraine for this match. He is an added security for his team. The intervention he made in the 19th minute, saving Kane’s shot is one of the reasons that the result was 1-1.
His rating for this game is 7.2.
Yukhym Konoplia was so effective and his defensive positioning was an extra security for Ukraine. He was activated in the midfield also playing high and providing a good passing alternative while building up. The assist he provided for Zinchenko in the goal of equalizer made his attacking presence one of the bests of the game.
His rating is 7.5.
Ilia Zabarnyi with his game in the center of the defence, but especially with his defensive game helping Konoplia helped Ukraine to nullify every attempt England made on that side. His robust defending in the cases when England created the right side was a bonus for Ukraine.
His rating is 7.2.
Mykola Matviyenko was not in his best days, but it remains a fact that he handled a lot of pressure in that left side. Having a tough client like Saka and Walker, made him and his game tougher to handle and as a consequence mistakes were made. Walker scores in the 41st and he could have done more to stop him.
His rating is 6.7.
Vitaliy Mykolenko was probably the most attacked player on that left side. He participated well in the build-up, but his defense was questionable not only in Walker’s goal but also in 1v1 situations with Bukayo Saka.
His rating is 6.5.
Oleksandr Zinchenko’s straight positioning in the midfield and not masking him as a fullback was probably not the right decision by Rebrov. His goal and his attacking actions acting as an advanced midfielder gave Ukraine more options in the third part of the pitch.
His rating is 7.0.
Taras Stepanenko as a pivot prevented England from finding the spaces and exploiting the speed of both wingers. He had tough clients like Maddison and Bellingham but managed to defend the spaces well.
His rating is 7.0.
Heorhi Sudakov had a tough challenge, balancing th attack and the defensive midfield, but his game was not in the expected levels. He made a shot in the second half from a long-range, before he was substituted by Sydorchuk in the 65th. He should have found more gaps in the lines of England.
His rating is 6.8.
Victor Tsygankov had more chances to go upfront with Bellingham not being a typical winger on the left. The fact that he was positioned on the defense made his game ineffective.
His rating for this game was 6.6.
Roman Yaremchuk had fewer touches than we expected only 21 touches. He received a yellow in the 30th minute and played approximately an hour, replaced by Artem Dovbyk in the 65th.
His rating is 6.5.
Mykhaylo Mydryk was far away of the standards we used him watching at Chelsea. He didn’t produce the best performance with Walker outplaying him. He suffered an injury after being tackled cleanly by Walker at the end of the game and was substituted by Yehor Nazaryna.
His rating is 6.5.
Substitutions average positions
Serhiy Krytsov played all the second half after replacing Matviyenko. He was solid and did not allow too much space. The fact that he kept the balances in several positions in the center of the defense means that he knew exactly his purpose in the game.
His rating is 6.9.
Vitali Buyalskiy entered in the 76 minute replacing Zinchenko and he never dropped in his game. The positioning beside Stepanenko gave Ukraine more security at the back.
His rating was 6.8.
Serhiy Sydorchuk replaced Sudakov and occupied the left side of the midfield helping Tsygankov and closing the spaces in the midfield and not allowing Chilwell and Rashford later in the second half risk.
His rating was 6.6.
Artem Dovbyk’s entrance in the 65th was to create more spaces in the attack and be aggressive upfront in order not to allow too many spaces behind. He had no shooting chances and did not attack the zone.
His rating is 6.4.
Yehor Nazaryna played only eight minutes and he was not involved too much in the game. His positioning in the left side of the midfield made him defend well and did not allow spaces.
His rating is 6.7.
The coach
Serhiy Rebrov respected the expectations and gave England a tough game. But the slowness of the attack is his responsibility.
His rating is 6.8.
