Turkey, led by Houston Rockets star Alperen Sengun, received a favorable draw in the EuroBasket knockout round, avoiding dangerous NBA stars until the final.
EuroBasket group play has concluded, and Turkey’s path in the knockout stage looks promising. Despite not playing, Turkey’s draw against Sweden, who struggled in the group stage, sets them up for a potentially smooth start. What’s more, Turkey’s positioning in the bracket keeps them away from powerhouse teams like Germany, Serbia, and Slovenia until the final rounds.
If Turkey overcomes Sweden in the round of 16, they will then face either Bosnia-Herzegovina or Poland in the quarterfinals, both of which posted 3-2 records in the group stage. This favorable draw increases Turkey’s chances of clinching their first EuroBasket title in history, with a silver medal in 2001 as their best finish to date.
Although Turkey has not secured a EuroBasket championship previously, their strong roster led by Alperen Sengun positions them as top contenders in 2025. Sengun, a standout for the Houston Rockets, has been instrumental for the Turkish team and was the sixth leading scorer in the tournament.
