Süper Lig started its activity back in 1923, the year of the opening of the Turkish Federation. Starting from the 2022-2023 season 19 teams play in the Süper Lig and fight each year for the champion crown. The season starts in August and ends in May.
The champions go in the UEFA Champions League, and the runner-up goes in the second round of UECL. Meanwhile, the third place earns a ticket to the UEFA Europa Conference League. Three lower teams play in the first league. Furthermore, teams from position 3 to 6 from the first league go through a play-off to secure a place in the Süper Lig.
The attendance of Süper Lig is 12,698 spectators and this number is changing from season to season. As it stands more people are coming into the stadiums and this has changed also in the popularity of the league abroad. The league has more audience globally and it is live in important areas and sports broadcasters.
