A former Premier League champion could soon be joining Thomas Tuchel’s coaching staff with the England national team.
Tuchel was officially announced today as England’s new manager, having signed an 18-month contract that will see him lead the Three Lions into the 2026 World Cup. Set to take charge from 2025, Tuchel is already assembling his team of coaches ahead of his first match in charge.
It’s confirmed that his trusted assistant, Anthony Barry – who worked with Tuchel at both Chelsea and Bayern Munich – will join him as his right-hand man. Now, it appears another familiar face from Tuchel’s Chelsea days could be joining the staff: Henrique Hilario, a former Chelsea goalkeeper.
According to reports from Di Marzio’s Nathan Gissing, Hilario, best known as a backup keeper during his eight years at Chelsea, will take on a part-time role with the England squad. After retiring, Hilario immediately transitioned into a goalkeeping coach role with Chelsea and has been with the club ever since, including during Tuchel’s time as manager.
Though Hilario only made 39 appearances for Chelsea, he was part of the squad that won the 2010 Premier League title, the 2012 Champions League, and three FA Cups. Now, the 48-year-old is expected to bring his expertise to the England national team as part of Tuchel’s coaching staff.
