Tottenham hosted Liverpool in the most important match of week 7 in what is not only an expression of pure rivalry, but also a clash between contenders for a place in the UEFA Champions League.
Richarlison and Udogie combined in the seventh minute but the cross was intercepted by Matip. Diaz stole a ball from Bissouma in the 11th minute but could not do much. Robertson and Gakpo shot in the 14th but their attempt found the hands of Vicario.
Liverpool had the initiative and nerves were shown as Diaz gave Romero an elbow to the face. Tottenham created with Romero from the back and Liverpool responded with Szoboslai in the 18th minute. Gomez tried to find Gakpo in the 21st, but his pass was intercepted by Van De Ven.
Curtis Jones gave a tackle to his right foot to Yves Bissouma and was sent off by the referee in the 26th minute.
Maddison tried a shot in the 31st minute, but his attempt went well wide.
Kulusevski passed for Richarlison in the 33rd, but his shot went wide. Luiz Diaz scored for Liverpool in the 34th but was offside.
Both teams found the goals
Richarlison combined with Son Heung Min who scored in the 36th, to give Tottenham a deserved lead.
Van De Ven had a heated moment with Joe Gomez as he escaped with a corner. McAllister stopped Udogie, with a foul receiving a yellow card.
Richarlison was offside before shooting the post of Allison in the 44th minute. Six minutes were added on and both teams reacted in the midfield with aggressive play. Gakpo fouled Bissouma in the 47th and this was one of the fouls. Udogie tackled Gakpo and got a yellow card in the 49th.
Cody Gakpo scored in the 50th minute after a cross from Dominik Szoboslai and defeated Vicario with a powerful shot.
Kulusewski and Romero combined with Romero who shot, but his shot was blocked by Van Dijk.
Diaz had the perfect chance to score with a pass from Momo Salah but did not find the target in the 51st.
Teams closed the first half with one goal each offering real effort and energy creating and being aggressive in both lines.
The second half started with Maddison shooting in the 49th and Son shooting in the 51st but Allison was there to make important saves.
Son scored again after an assist by Richarlison but was offside in the 59th. Maddison had a free kick in the 61st, but could not do much. Diogo Jota tackled Udogie in th 66th and got a yellow card.
Tottenham was playing better
Manor Solomon replaced Heung Min Son and Ange Postecouglu had something in mind. To make the Liverpool evening even worse, Diogo Jota received the second yellow in the 69th, leaving his team with nine players.
Liverpool made three changes; Ibrahima Conate replaced Joe Gomez, Wataru Endo entered for Luis Diaz and Salah left for Trent Alexander Arnold.
Pedro Porro tested Allison with a shot in the 78th, but the keeper reacted well.
Pape Matar Sarr and Ineyama Udogie left the pitch for Ben Davies and Oliver Skipp to change the dynamics but not the composure of the team in the 83rd minute.
Cristian Romero received a yellow for talking to Dominik Szoboslai. Postecouglu made the other two subs in the 90th. Yves Bissouma left the pitch for Pierre Emile Hojbjerg and James Maddison for Alejo Veliz.
Joel Matip scored an own goal in the last minute of the game to give away the three points for Liverpool with nine men.
Six minutes were added on as the match was closed with Tottenham that were the team that wanted the victory more.
