Tottenham Hotspur may be looking to surprise fans with a bold move for Arsenal’s young goalkeeper Karl Hein.
At just 22, Hein is currently on loan with Real Valladolid in LaLiga, where he’s shown strong form and caught the eye of several clubs. Tottenham’s interest isn’t just a rumor, either – it looks like they’re seriously considering bringing Hein to North London next summer, a move few would have predicted.
Ange Postecoglou, Spurs’ manager, appears keen on bringing in some fresh competition for his current first-choice keeper, Guglielmo Vicario. While Vicario has held the No. 1 spot, there have been some shaky moments in his recent performances, which have led Spurs to assess potential new additions between the posts. Hein, it seems, has become a frontrunner.
With veteran Fraser Forster now 36 years old, Tottenham knows they’ll need a longer-term option in the backup role sooner rather than later. Hein’s contract with Arsenal expires next summer, meaning he’ll be available on a free transfer if he chooses not to renew his deal at the Emirates.
Because of Hein’s contract situation, he’ll be eligible to open pre-contract talks with foreign clubs as early as January. This could pave the way for him to secure a move away from Arsenal over the winter, though Tottenham will have to wait until the summer to make their move official if they remain his top suitors.

Rumor has it that Chelsea is also interested in Hein, but for now, Spurs seem to be leading the race for his signature. Football Insider has called this a move that “no one saw coming,” and it could make Hein the first Arsenal player to cross over to Tottenham since Emmanuel Adebayor back in 2011.
While Hein is currently a third-choice keeper at Arsenal, he’s gaining valuable experience on his loan in Spain. Despite Valladolid’s struggles this season, sitting 19th in La Liga, Hein has impressed individually, making him a promising prospect for the future.
However, there’s still a chance Arsenal may choose to keep Hein by offering him a new contract. If they don’t, speculation around his future will only ramp up as his contract nears its end. Tottenham fans are definitely watching closely to see if Hein might make the bold switch.
Tottenham’s transfer plans for next season don’t end with a potential Hein signing. Reports also suggest Spurs are planning to bring Real Betis midfielder Johnny Cardoso to the club next summer. Cardoso’s move is almost a done deal, with Spurs having an option to buy him as part of Giovani Lo Celso’s recent transfer back to Betis.
The option to buy Cardoso is worth €25m (£21m) and will be available for a brief two-week period in June 2025. If Tottenham activates it, they’ll have first rights, plus a sell-on clause that ensures a profit if Cardoso moves to another club in the future.
Spurs are also dealing with ongoing interest in their own players, particularly Radu Dragusin. The center-back has attracted attention from Serie A clubs like Napoli and Juventus in recent weeks. However, Spurs are unlikely to let Dragusin go in January.
Postecoglou has made it clear that he’d rather add defenders to his squad than let them leave, especially with the current injury to key defender Micky van de Ven. Van de Ven’s hamstring injury could keep him out for weeks, so this might be Dragusin’s chance to step up and prove himself as a regular starter.
In the coming months, Tottenham’s moves in the transfer market will become clearer, but it’s already shaping up to be an intriguing period. With potential new additions like Hein and Cardoso, plus the opportunity for players like Dragusin to take on larger roles, Spurs’ lineup could see some fresh faces and dynamics next season.
