Tottenham have entered the race to sign Aston Villa winger Leon Bailey after Manchester United’s interest failed to progress, according to reports.
Both clubs are in the market for attacking reinforcements before the transfer window slams shut at 11 pm, but while United’s pursuit has lost momentum, Spurs are looking to take advantage of the situation. With key injuries limiting Ange Postecoglou’s attacking options, the North London club is now exploring a potential deal for the Jamaican forward.
Manchester United’s interest in Bailey initially emerged as they sought alternatives to Mathys Tel, whose move to Old Trafford collapsed due to Bayern Munich’s insistence on a permanent deal. Alongside Christopher Nkunku, Bailey was identified as a potential option to bolster United’s attack following the loan departure of Marcus Rashford to Aston Villa and continued speculation over Alejandro Garnacho’s future. However, despite initial inquiries, talks between United and Villa have failed to gain traction, leaving the door open for Spurs to make their move.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham have now reached out to Aston Villa regarding Bailey’s availability. However, a deal remains complicated, as Villa are reluctant to part ways with the winger unless they can secure suitable replacements. The imminent arrival of Marco Asensio from Paris Saint-Germain on a six-month loan could play a role in Villa’s decision, but their efforts to land additional attacking reinforcements, including an attempt to sign Joao Felix, have yet to materialize. As a result, Bailey’s future remains uncertain, with Villa holding the cards.

Bailey’s numbers this season have not been particularly eye-catching, with just one goal and three assists in 29 appearances. However, his explosive pace and experience in the Premier League make him an attractive option for clubs in need of immediate attacking depth. Last season, he managed 14 goals, demonstrating his potential when given a consistent run of games. With three-and-a-half years of Premier League experience under his belt, he would offer a ready-made solution for either Tottenham or United, provided Villa agree to let him go.
Meanwhile, Tottenham continue to strengthen in other areas, having officially announced the signing of centre-back Kevin Danso. The Austrian defender, who will wear the No. 4 shirt, was initially set to join Wolves before Spurs swooped in to hijack the deal. Danso arrives on a six-month loan with an obligation to buy for €25m (£20.9m) and could be eligible to make his debut in the League Cup semi-final second leg against Liverpool on Thursday. His arrival addresses a key defensive need for Postecoglou’s side, who have been dealing with injuries and inconsistency at the back.
Spurs are also working on adding another centre-back, with negotiations ongoing for Axel Disasi. The North London club agreed to a loan deal with Chelsea for the French defender, offering a sizeable fee, but convincing the player remains a challenge. Disasi had previously agreed personal terms with Aston Villa earlier in the window, and despite Spurs’ improved financial offer, he has yet to give the green light to a move. With the clock ticking down, Tottenham must move swiftly if they hope to finalize any last-minute additions.
