Scotland loses in La Cartuja but keeps the first place in group A.

Spain was the team that attacked first and Scotland in spite of starting the game were trying to press and not allowing La Roja to create from the back.

Morata presented Torres with Gunn in the second minute, but he missed by inches to send the squad ahead.

Spain had a corner kick in the fourth minute and the tensions rose in the sixteen-yard box. Morata had a chance with a header in the fifth but his header went wide.

Scotland reacted in the sixth minute with Dykes who crossed in the box but none of his friends could profit from his ball.

Spain decided to intensify their attacks and wanted to score first in order to put away any scenario of elimination in this group. Gavi and Merino were controlling the game in the first minutes and that kept Scotland behind the ball with two lines.

Spain wanted to score

Spain had a corner kick in the 16th, with Le Normand who deflected for Morata who could not convert. Ferran Torres could not serve for Oyarzabal in the 17th minute. Oyarzabal had another chance in the 20th, with the ball ending over the bar.

Christie and McGinn reacted for Scotland but their efforts were not rewarded in the 22nd.

Morata was offside in the 30th minute and Spain found the post with Mikel Merino in the 35th. Luis de La Fuente’s squad had the initiative and the desire to find the advantage in the first half. Morata’s offside disallowed goal motivated them even more.

Andrew Robertson was injured and was subbed in the 44th and this was not good news for the visitors. Nathan Patterson came on with the difficult duty of defending Ferran Torres.

Mikel Merino tackled Scott McTomminay in the 48th minute to stop Scotland’s counterattack.

The first half ended with Spain who was the better team but was unable to score. Scotland defended with a quality midfield.

Spain made a double change at the start of the second half. Zaragoza came on for Mikel Oyarzabal and Alejandro Balde for Francisco Garcia.

Zaragoza made a solo run in the 48th minute but his shot went wide. Bryan Zaragoza was fouled by Nathan Patterson with the defender who collected a yellow in the 51st.

Christie could have scored in the 53rd, but he could not control the ball in the zone. Morata controlled the ball in the 56th and Spain was the team, who needed desperately the points in the second half, with Norway being with the same amount of points.

Scotland responded with Scott McTomminay directly from the free kick in the 60th. After reviewing the goal for a foul of Jack Hendry against Unai Simon.

Spain would find the goal

Carvajal was out for Jesus Navas and Mikel Merino left the pitch for Oihan Sancet in the 67th.

Scotland tried to defend the point but it was impossible against Spain who found the net with Alvaro Morata in the 74th after an assist by Jesus Navas.

Scotland made another two subs with Lyndon Dykes and Ryan Christie leaving the pitch for Stuart Armstrong and Che Adams.

Adams had the chance to score in the 82nd, but his shot was saved by Unai Simon.

Spain found the second in the 87th minute with Sancet to secure the game and keep Norway behind in the table.

Aymeric Laporte got a yellow for fouling Scott McTominay in the last minute of the game.

Scotland defended tight in the last minutes to not allow the third goal. McClean and Adams had a chance in the 91st minute.

La Roja won a difficult match to heavily impact the outcome of Group A with a direct match against Norway to decide which team will go in the finals of Euro 2024.
