Chelsea captain Reece James recently took to social media to show support for centre-back Wesley Fofana.
In his post, James shared a simple yet powerful “Step by step.” This gesture comes as Chelsea face mounting injury concerns.
Wesley Fofana, 24, has been sidelined since he suffered a hamstring injury in a 3-0 win over Aston Villa in early December. Moreover, he has missed the last 15 games in all competitions. Previously, he missed the entire 2023-24 season due to an ACL tear.
Before his injury, Fofana played a crucial role under manager Enzo Maresca. He started all 12 games and clocked 1,017 minutes, even though he did not register a goal contribution. Consequently, his absence has left a noticeable gap in the defence.
In response, Chelsea have recalled Trevoh Chalobah from his loan spell at Crystal Palace and brought back Aaron Anselmino from Boca Juniors. These moves aim to add much-needed depth to the centre-back position. Additionally, the club is working to strengthen its defensive options.

A reliable transfer insider confirmed that Chelsea are prioritising a new centre-back for the summer. The club had already seen an offer for Nottingham Forest’s Murillo turned down in January. Furthermore, preliminary talks have taken place to re-sign Marc Guehi, even though a winter move never materialised.
Reece James himself has struggled with injuries this season. At 25, he missed Chelsea’s first 11 games before making a brief return, only to be sidelined for another 10 games with a hamstring injury. Moreover, he missed most of last season and even required surgery. Thus, his call for Fofana’s speedy return resonates deeply.
Manager Enzo Maresca has added to the challenges by confirming that both Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu are expected to remain out until after the international break. As a result, Christoper Nkunku currently stands as the sole striker option. This situation further underlines the squad’s vulnerability.
Looking ahead, Chelsea will face Brighton for the second time in a week on February 14. They aim to overturn the disappointment of their FA Cup exit on February 8. In addition, the club has shown interest in signing Antoine Semenyo after a surprising twist. For the latest updates, fans are encouraged to follow Chelsea news on social media.
