PGMOL released the audio of disallowed goal in the match between Liverpool and Tottenham. What’s next?

This was one of the most controversial videos to be released for this season of the Premier League.

PGMOL published the audio that lead to the disallowed goal of Luis Diaz and changed the outcome of the game.

Jurgen Klopp commented the audio as unneccessary together with the statement that PGMOL released. PGMOL stands for Professional Game Match Officials Limited and it the responsible body for the English football and released a statement saying that there was a miscommunication between AVAR and VAR relating with this case.

Jurgen Klopp suggested for the match to be repeated, but seems that this is not an option.

PGMOL after review accepted their error and said that some steps will be taken in order to stop other errors from happening in the future. Steps that will be taken include, byt are not limited to:

– Guidance to Video Match Officials has always emphasised the need for efficiency, but never at the expense of accuracy. This principle will be clearly reiterated.

– A new VAR Communication Protocol will be developed to enhance the clarity of communication between the referee and the VAR team in relation to on-field decisions.

– As an additional step to the process, the VAR will confirm the outcome of the VAR check process with the AVAR before confirming the final decision to the on-field officials.

This was as per the statement. What is next?

The level of commitment and the concentration in the Premier League must change. Yes it is a matter of communication as communication conserves knowledge and indicates in outcome and in decisions.

However, the circumstances dictate a change and possibilities could be created in a open play and in other fixtures also.

But above all a new mentality must be created within the referees in order to stimulate the coperation with the VAR and AVAR-VAR cooperation. The levels of communication will change in respect to the principles of the game.
