Novak Djokovic plays in the final of the US Open against Daniil Medvedev in a match that reminds a match two years ago after beating Ben Shelton in three straight sets.
He will play once more on a big stage and this is the fifth title he wants to archive after winning the ATP Masters 1000 Cincinnati (Outdoor/Hard), Roland Garros (Outdoor/Clay), Australian Open (Outdoor/Hard), and Adelaide 1 (Outdoor/Hard). So this is the fifth title for Djokovic, who has shown real strength and character in this US Open.
Djokovic is waiting for the best Dannil Medvedev and he knows it is gonna be difficult and sometimes he will need extra nerves confronting Medvedev. Djokovic himself had accepted the importance of another title as he had been winning in this business three years after he turned pro.
This time he comes as the most experienced player on the court and he will strike another Grand Slam. Djokovic has achieved what no other player has achieved winning titles and staying always in high levels.
He said after the semifinal that it was amazing for him to be in the final and in the semifinal everything was working really well. He said that is great to play again in the final, despite his age.
“The fact is that at 36 every Grand Slam final could be the last one so I think that I probably value these occasions and opportunities to win another Slam more than I have maybe ten years ago. Ten years ago I felt like I still have quite a few years ahead of me. I don’t know how many I have ahead of me now or I don’t know how many years where I play Slams in the whole season do I have in front of me.”
“Of course, I’m aware of the occasion, but I tried to approach Sunday’s match as any other match with the intention to win and outplay my opponent and it is going to be the toughest challenge without a doubt.”
He will be ready to face Medvedev and the intensity in this final and the level of commitment will be in the maximum for both tennis players.
