Mohamed Salah has added fuel to speculation about his Liverpool future, openly admitting he is “closer to leaving” than staying as his contract nears its expiration.
The Egyptian forward, whose deal runs out at the end of the season, expressed frustration over the lack of a formal contract offer, despite his pivotal role in Liverpool’s success.
Following his brace in Liverpool’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Southampton, Salah didn’t hold back when addressing the media. “We are almost in December, and I haven’t received any offers yet to stay at the club,” Salah said. “I’m probably more out than in.”
The comments highlight a growing disconnect between Salah and Liverpool’s hierarchy. Despite his instrumental contributions to the team, including yet another decisive performance at St. Mary’s, no new terms have been tabled. “You know I have been in the club for many years. There is no club like this,” Salah continued. “But in the end, it is not in my hands. As I said before, it is December, and I haven’t received anything yet about my future.”
Salah’s love for Liverpool’s fans was evident in his remarks, but the forward’s tone was bittersweet. “I love the fans. The fans love me. In the end, it is not in my hands or the fans’ hands. Let’s wait and see,” he added, leaving his future shrouded in uncertainty.

This is not the first time Salah has voiced his concerns about contract negotiations. Earlier in the season, after another match-winning display, he had hinted at his frustrations. However, his latest comments carry a stronger sense of finality.
When pressed about his disappointment over the lack of an offer, Salah was candid. “Of course, yeah. I’m not going to retire soon, so I’m just playing, focusing on the season, and trying to win the Premier League and hopefully the Champions League as well,” he said. “I’m disappointed, but we will see.”
Salah’s professionalism and dedication remain undisputed. “I’m very professional. Everybody can see my work ethic,” he noted. “I’m just trying to enjoy my football, and I will play at the top level as long as possible. I’m just doing my best because this is who I am, and I try to give it all for myself and for the club. We will see what happens next.”
Liverpool’s ongoing contract standstill isn’t limited to Salah. Talks with representatives for other key players, such as Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, have also hit snags, casting a shadow over what has been a promising season so far.
The crux of the issue appears to be financial. Salah, who reportedly earns £20 million annually, would be 35 at the end of a two-year extension, raising questions about the club’s willingness to commit to such terms for an aging player, regardless of his impact.
For Liverpool fans, the possibility of losing Salah looms large. The Egyptian King has etched himself into Anfield folklore with his relentless goalscoring and unwavering commitment to the badge. But as December approaches without any progress, the prospect of a farewell becomes increasingly real.
With Salah’s performances still at an elite level, Liverpool’s decision-makers face mounting pressure to resolve this impasse. For now, the clock is ticking, and Salah’s words leave the ball firmly in Liverpool’s court. Will they seize the moment to secure their talisman, or are they prepared to let one of their greatest players walk away?
