Marketa Voundruosova was extremely happy at the post-match press conference saying everything is singing and it was unbelievable for her to be the Wimbledon champions.
Voundrouosova won the final against Ons Jabeur 6-4,6-4 and gained his first Wimbledon trophy at the age of 24. This Wimbledon title came out of suffering and sacrifice. Vondruosova becomes on of the big Czech names winning Wimbledon. Martina Navratilova was the first Czech female player to win Wimbledon back in 1978, beating Christine Marie Evert in three sets.
This time the history was different with Vondruosova dominating the two sets. Although for Marketa was a tough and nervous match she can’t hide the joy of the champion.
Match Ending
Asked by the journalist what went through her mind when she finished the match, Vondruosova answered: “I’m in relief because when I was you know 40-40 level up, I couldn’t breathe. It is just like everything in on you. I’m just very happy that I stayed in my head and kept it together. It was really tough in some moments but I think it was a great match. We had some great rallies and she’s an amazing player, she’s an amazing person. That was the tough part. We know each other very well and I’m so happy that I kept fighting in all the moments.”
Vondruosova commented on the new tattoo that she and her coach will make after the victory.
“I’ll choose for him (Jan Mertl). Maybe we will get the same one. We talked before the tournament and he said, maybe if you win a Grand Slam in London, we will do it. And this is happening so I hope he is not gonna back and I’ll make him do it. I hope we can make it happen here.”
The Closed Roof
“I played a couple of matches under the roof. We played with Jesicca (Jessica Pegula) at the end of the match and we’re telling I was the same thing. So I think it is better for me and they told us around ten and I had to warm up at eleven, but I just said let’s go outside. It was very windy and I just wanted to eat and get everything done. So I just wanna stick to the plan and we went to hit at eleven and I was very happy they closed the roof because it is very different in windy weather.”
“I mean the roof can help you with the surf and I don’t have to focus on the wind so much and I feel like everything is the same on every side. So I think you have to focus on the game, not on the wind and not even on the sun. So I think that’s a good thing and I’m used to playing indoors you know. We practice in Prague in winter indoors so I always play well indoors. So I was like yeah maybe that’s gonna help me.”

“I have my husband here, my little sister. She came also on Friday. So I’m so happy to share with the people I have here because in Paris it was a bit sad. I couldn’t go there to hug them and now this happened. Just to share it with them, it is amazing.”
Marketa Vondruosova has opened a way of success in achieving not only a title but performing at a high level in several games.
