Brighton kept possession in the first minutes of the game to not allow Liverpool to find spaces and study the game.
They had a free kick and two corner kicks in the first five minutes and put the Reds under real pressure. Solly March pushed Darwin Nunez and this gave the chance the visitors to keep Brighton and Hove Albion in their midfield in the sixth minute.
Dominik Szoboslai’s attempt after the free kick was blocked by Evan Ferguson and the double line that Brighton had behind the ball made an effect in the defensive aspect.
Brighton and Liverpool balanced the game of each other and the following minutes were played in the midfield.
Brighton managed to score first
Simon Adingra won a ball from Alexis McAllister and shot in the 20th minute to find Allison unprepared and scored the first goal of the game.
Pascal Gross tried from the distance in the 26th minute but his shot had no power and ended wide.
Brighton was having the chances and were at the sides with Mitoma and Adingra and at the same time activating Baleba and Gross.
Baleba shot in the 28th minute but his attempt was no way near the target of Allison.
Lewis Dunk took a free kick at the edge of the box in the 39th, but his shot was blocked by Van Dijk.
Mohammed Salah scored in the 40th minute defeating Vebruggen in the box and equalizing the game for the Reds.
Anthony Taylor decided for a penallty after Szoboslai was tackled by Pascal Gross who kept his shirt in the 44th minute.
Salah scored the second goal with Verbuggen who found the right side of the ball, but couldn’t save the ball.
Three minutes were added on as the Liverpool had the possession the ball and they managed the advantage of the first half.
Harvey Elliot left the pitch to be replaced by Ryan Gravenberch in the second half.
Adingra had the first chance of the game in the second half dribbling Robertson and shooting, but his shot was saved by Allison.
Brighton continued to attack in the second half with Evan Ferguson who shot wide in the 52nd. His curling did not manage to find the target of Allison.
Liverpool had the initiative and kept the possession with Alexandert Arnold and Robertson before making a wonderful quick transition with Szoboslai who passed for Ryan Gravernberch finding the right post of Verbruggen.
Brighton responded with Solly March in the other side but Brighton could not do much to riskj the target of Allsion.
Adingra tried in the right side but his runs were not successful to find spaces in their zone and risk the defence of Liverpool.
Subs coming on
Salah found his teammates as Liverpool organized an attack in the 59th minute. Evan Ferguson left the pitvh for Danny Welbeck in the 60th and Igor by Van Hecke two minutes later.
Graverberch had a chance after releasing from his opponent with a scissor but his shot was saved by Verbunggen in the 65th.
Dominik Szoboslai received a yellow card in the 67th and this complicated the things for Liverpool in the midfield.
Mitoma had a chance in the 70th minute, but his shot was blocked by Van Dijk with his left hand, but this was not called by Anthony Taylor. The referee punished De Zerbi for protests with a yellow one minute later.
Brighton were all in the midfield of Liverpool in the 72nd and Jurgen Klopp decided to make changes.
Joel Matip was out for Ibrahima Konate in the 73rd. That cost to Liverpool as they concede the second goal.
Solly March provided a pass for Lewis Dunk, who scored in the 78th minute to equalize the game.
Brighton and Hove Albion had another chance with a free kick in the 81st, but could not convert.
Joao Pedro had the chance in the 83rd to seal the game for Brighton but his attempt went over the bar.
Mitoma was fouled by Joe Gomez who received a yellow card for the challenge. Brighton had the concrete chances in the last minutes with Liverpool who tried to defend.
Joao Pedro was subbed by Ansu Fati in a move that would bring more freedom in the attack and would allow them defend from the first line in the final minutes of the game.
Four minutes were added on as the match was closed in a equalizer with Brighton who wanted the victory more and Liverpool who were more pragmatic.
