Lincoln City and Birmingham City are set to face off for the first time in a league fixture since 1954, as they clash at the LNER Stadium this Saturday in League One. Both teams are chasing promotion, so it’s bound to be an exciting matchup!
Lincoln City, the hosts, have had a solid start to the season. After finishing just outside the playoff spots last year, they’re determined to crack the top six this time. They’ve lost only one of their first nine league games and are riding a seven-game unbeaten streak in League One. However, Birmingham bounced back quickly with a 4-0 victory over Shrewsbury in the EFL Trophy, thanks to a brace from Scott Wright and goals from Tomoki Iwata and Emil Hansson. Despite the loss, they still sit comfortably at the top of the League One table, with a two-point cushion over second-placed Wrexham and newly-promoted Mansfield Town in third.
While Birmingham made waves in the summer transfer window by splashing out on new signings, their recent focus has been on securing contract extensions for key players like Ethan Laird, Paik Seung-ho, and Keshi Anderson.
