Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh was in good spirits on Wednesday, just days after experiencing an irregular heartbeat during Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos. The reason for his upbeat mood? Some great news from his cardiologist right before meeting with the media.
“Got some test results back. ‘The heart of an athlete’ was the direct quote from my cardiologist,” Harbaugh joked with a smile, even flexing for the reporters. “That made me feel pretty good. He also said my stress test was incredible. Apparently, my stamina improved as it went on. I’m back in rhythm, and hopefully, it stays that way. Got a heart monitor on, but overall, it’s good news.”
Harbaugh, who will be wearing the monitor for two weeks and is now on blood thinners, dealt with an atrial flutter on Sunday, which caused him to miss part of the first quarter. During his absence, defensive coordinator Jesse Minter stepped in as interim head coach.
Harbaugh also mentioned he might make a few lifestyle changes, like cutting back on Diet Coke and drinking more water, but still believes that football is the “right medication” to keep him feeling young.
