“I doubt saying we don’t have squad depth”: Mikel Arteta questioning the journalist over his declarations in the pre-season.

Mikel Arteta has a heated argument with a journalist over the squad depth and the way Arsenal is built and composed to fight on several fronts.

The Arsenal main coach questioned the journalist over his declaration saying that Arsenal has improved the depth of the squad and not lacking depth. Asked by the journalist if Arsenal had fewer options to play he responded in that way.

“I doubt I said that. I said if we could improve the squad depth, yes, but to say we cannot compete, I don’t think I said that.”

” We have improved the depth of the squad and we have improved as well the possible starts in the level of lineups. Both in the level of the match are really important and give that ability to compete, especially in the way we have to play this season.”

Asked about the market and the possibility that Arsenal has to sign players Arteta responded that they need to buy more in the transfer window.

“We used historically, the teams that spend big amounts of money for big players and the amortization of these players and how they are reselling those players three or four years and obviously not bad at all. But the market can change at any moment. And we ask that question when we were hitting after a year, a COVID period, it was a big issue.”

“So we don’t know, you see not only here but in other parts of the world as well, the dynamics of the transfers and how this is evolving, and probably nobody expected that six-twelve months ago.”

The Arsenal main coach is evaluating each option and wants to have a full squad available for the new season. Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber, and Kai Havertz are some of the new names that will be an important part of the projects of Arteta, for this season and beyond.

David Raya, Runar Alex Runarsson, and the right winger Marquinhos that ended his loan from Nantes are all the arrivals that complete the Arsenal transfers in this transfer window.
