The Milwaukee Bucks are starting to regain their footing after a challenging start to the 2024-25 NBA season.
A slow 2-8 start had many questioning their form, but back-to-back victories have lifted the team to a 6-9 record. For team leader Giannis Antetokounmpo, the path forward is clear: resilience, improvement, and a belief in the long season ahead.
Antetokounmpo was the driving force behind Milwaukee’s latest victory, a convincing 122-106 win over the Chicago Bulls. The Greek Freak was unstoppable, racking up a game-high 41 points along with 9 rebounds and 8 assists, narrowly missing a triple-double. Speaking after the game, Giannis remained steadfast in his optimism.
“There’s 67 games left,” Antetokounmpo emphasized. “We’re trending toward the right direction. We’re winning at home, right? It’s not that bad. At the end of the day, we have a lot of season left. A lot of season left.”
Building Resilience in the Face of Adversity
The Bucks’ slow start was a significant test of the team’s character. For Antetokounmpo, the key to bouncing back has been resilience and a refusal to succumb to negativity. “It’s easy for us to put our heads down, but we’re not going to do that,” he said. “We’re not going to feel bad about ourselves. I don’t expect anybody to feel bad for us. People want us to be in this position. People want us to fight for our lives.”
Antetokounmpo’s words reflect a determination to turn adversity into fuel for improvement. He acknowledged the emotional toll of the team’s early struggles, including a tough losing streak that left a lasting impression.
“I think we lost five in a row or six in a row, something like that. We all know that feeling, and it was horrible,” Giannis admitted. “It felt like we lost 20 in a row to me. So, we don’t really want to go back there. I don’t think anybody wants to go back there.”

Focus on Fundamentals
With their early struggles behind them, the Bucks are focused on rediscovering the form that has made them perennial contenders. For Antetokounmpo, it’s about taking a step-by-step approach.
“We just want to be trending toward the right direction, playing good basketball, trusting one another, moving the ball, and putting ourselves in a position to win games,” he said. “The goal is to win as many games as we can while improving every step of the way.”
Brook Lopez on Team Progress
Giannis wasn’t the only one feeling encouraged after the win. Center Brook Lopez, who contributed 21 points in the victory, echoed Antetokounmpo’s sentiments about the team’s progress.
“We know the team that we are,” Lopez said. “We’ve known it all season long. We just had to prove it by winning games. It’s gotten better and better.”
Lopez highlighted the effort and focus the team has brought to recent games, pointing out that their last few wins came down to executing under pressure. “The last few were close ones, but we put in a lot of work,” he said. “We’re doing great. Got better tonight—it wasn’t as close tonight. Just keep trending that way, keep building, keep pushing, keep playing closer and closer to a full game.”
Eyes on the Long Game
Despite the slow start, the Bucks remain committed to the long-term picture. Both Giannis and Lopez emphasized the importance of staying the course and focusing on consistent improvement rather than dwelling on past struggles.
For Antetokounmpo, the belief in his team’s potential remains unshaken. “At the end of the day, it’s about where we finish, not where we start,” he said. “This is just the beginning of the season. We have time to get better, and I believe we will.”
Rediscovering Identity
As the Bucks work to climb back to playoff contention, their recent performances are a reminder of what they’re capable of when they play to their strengths. With Antetokounmpo leading the charge and key contributors like Lopez stepping up, Milwaukee is beginning to resemble the team fans expected them to be.
The next challenge for the Bucks will be maintaining their momentum and continuing to refine their game. For a team that has faced its share of adversity, the focus is clear: resilience, improvement, and a relentless drive to compete.
If Milwaukee can sustain this trajectory, their early-season woes may soon be a distant memory.
