Evan Ferguson has expressed his excitement about working with Graham Potter again after securing a loan move to West Ham until the end of the season.
The young striker, who made his senior debut under Potter at Brighton, will now aim to make an impact at the London Stadium, with the Hammers hoping his arrival can provide a much-needed boost in attack. West Ham have agreed to cover Ferguson’s wages and pay Brighton a loan fee, though the deal includes no option or obligation to buy.
The Republic of Ireland international, who has struggled with injuries this season, is looking forward to the opportunity to get his form back on track. “I can see and know how big West Ham is,” Ferguson told the club’s media team. “It was a big opportunity for me to come here. I know the gaffer well and look forward to working under him again. I want to come in, do my best for the club, score goals, and see where we get to.”
West Ham’s attacking options have been severely depleted by injuries, making Ferguson’s arrival all the more important. Meanwhile, the Hammers are currently without key attacking players, with Niclas Füllkrug, Michail Antonio, and Crysencio Summerville all sidelined. Jarrod Bowen has been out since December with a broken foot, though he could return against Chelsea, while Lucas Paquetá—who has been deployed as a makeshift striker—remains a doubt for the crucial fixture. Ferguson, however, will not be available for the match at Stamford Bridge.

Potter is optimistic about what Ferguson can bring to the squad as West Ham continue their push for European qualification. “I’m delighted we’ve been able to bring Evan in on loan until the end of the season,” said the Hammers boss. “He’s a player we obviously know very well, so I’m grateful to the board for making it happen. He’s got plenty of quality attributes as a striker that we believe will benefit the group over the course of the coming months. We’re excited to integrate him into the squad and see him in action in the weeks to come.”
Ferguson has endured a frustrating campaign so far, featuring in just 15 games across all competitions, with only four starts and one goal to his name. Also, his loan move to West Ham presents a fresh start, allowing him to rediscover his form under a manager who knows how to get the best out of him. The striker will be eager to seize the opportunity and help the Hammers navigate a crucial period in their season.
His arrival comes as West Ham also welcome back James Ward-Prowse from his loan spell at Nottingham Forest. Although there was no recall clause in the midfielder’s deal, the clubs reached an agreement to terminate the loan, with Potter keen to strengthen his options in the middle of the park. Meanwhile, West Ham had been pushing to sign Celtic prospect Daniel Cummings before the deadline, but two bids were rejected. The club is expected to pursue a pre-contract agreement with the 18-year-old in the coming days.
