The Denver Broncos have made a strategic move to enhance their practice squad by welcoming Australian tight end Patrick Murtagh onto the team. Murtagh, a former Australian Rules football player hailing from Gold Coast, Queensland, brings a unique skill set and impressive physical attributes to the squad. Standing tall at 6-foot-6 and weighing 250 pounds, the 25-year-old athlete adds depth to the Broncos’ tight end lineup, joining seventh-round pick Caleb Lohner on the practice squad.
With Murtagh’s addition, the Broncos now have a total of 17 players on their practice squad, a decision made possible by the International Player Pathway Program. Having started his NFL journey in 2023 with the Detroit Lions and most recently being with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Murtagh caught the attention of the Broncos during a summer tryout. The team recognized the potential in Murtagh and opted to secure him for their practice squad, viewing the move as a low-risk opportunity to further develop his talents.
Given the Broncos’ active roster already boasts four tight ends—Evan Engram, Adam Trautman, Nate Adkins, and Lucas Krull—it is likely that Murtagh and Lohner will primarily serve as reserves. However, their presence provides valuable depth and versatility, offering the team options in the event of injuries or strategic shifts throughout the season.
