Darwin Nunez Transfer Case: Blocked Talks and a Future on the Line

Darwin Nunez made his desire to leave Liverpool clear during the January transfer window. He pushed for a move away from Anfield as pressure mounted.

Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal showed strong interest. The 25-year-old striker hoped to engage in transfer talks with the club.

Liverpool halted those discussions, a decision that has visibly upset Nunez. Sources reveal he remains frustrated over the blocked move.

Liverpool’s management chose to keep Nunez at Anfield as the season heats up. Coach Arne Slot recently criticized his work rate on the pitch.

This season, Nunez played 36 times, starting 16 matches and clocking 1,713 minutes. He scored 6 goals, recorded 5 assists, and picked up 7 yellow cards.

Since joining from Benfica in 2022 for a fee of around £85million, he has scored 39 goals in 132 games. He remains under contract until June 2028.

Nunez now finds himself behind teammates Diogo Jota, Cody Gakpo, and Luis Diaz in the attack hierarchy. The club has no intention of letting him go mid-season as they chase domestic and European success.

Liverpool may still clear the path for Nunez this summer. The club plans to use him in a part-exchange deal for Alexander Isak, who is valued at over £100million and is contracted until June 2028.
