Daniil Medvedev is happy about the win in the semis and says that nothing is over as he looks forward to the final with Djokovic.

Daniil Medvedev is in the final of the US Open after passing Alcaraz in a difficult match that was intense, tense, and at the same time amazing.

Medvedev defeated Alcaraz 1-3 in the first set, which was decided by the tie-break 3-7, and won in the second 1-6, losing the third 6-3 and returning to collect the winning set 3-6.

It was not an easy game for Daniil as he faced the Wimbledon Champion in a moment when Alcaraz was in the best form and could handle his pressure by returning difficult balls. But Medvedev turned this to his advantage and beat Alcaraz in his own game. The Spaniard was tense and never was in his 100%.

The number three had these words to say after his triumph against Alcaraz:

“I managed to do it. All four sets I played great, but especially you know the third set I played, let’s call it like this: I said I needed to play 11 out of 10. All the three sets I managed to do it. In the third set, I was maybe nine and a half, maybe 10 out of 10, and as we saw it was not enough against Carlos.”

“I managed to play well. I managed to serve well hit some lines in the important moments, and some great shots. So just really happy but the tournament is not over.”

The journalist reminded Medvedev that this match was a rematch after his last Grand Slam victory.

“Yeah, that is what I’m saying. Against Novak is the same. He is always better than the previous time he plays. So, for example, I beat him in the US Open final, and he beat me in Bercy [Paris]. Carlos won in Wimbledon, he beats him on Cincinnati. So Novak is gonna be his best version on Sunday and I have to be the best version of myself if I wanna try to beat him.”

Medvedev goes in the final as the underdog, but nothing is impossible as it would be the second time for him to beat Djokovic in two year period.
