It’s been a tough season for the Dallas Cowboys, and it looks like things just got a little rougher.
Quarterback Dak Prescott is expected to be out for several weeks after injuring his hamstring during Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons, according to NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero. This news adds to the Cowboys’ challenges, as the injury is more serious than initially thought.
Prescott had an MRI on his hamstring after Dallas’s 27-21 loss, and the results were worse than anyone hoped. Although the team hasn’t yet decided whether to place him on injured reserve (which would keep him out for at least four games), Dak will get a second medical opinion to figure out the best treatment options.
Adding to his rough day, Prescott also suffered a minor hand injury in the game, though the good news is that it doesn’t seem serious. With Dak on the sideline, backup quarterback Cooper Rush is expected to step in as the starter, with former first-round pick Trey Lance available as well if needed.

This latest injury comes as the Cowboys are already reeling, having lost three straight games. Their 3-5 record heading into Week 10 against the Philadelphia Eagles reflects a season that’s been difficult on multiple fronts. And with a series of tough games ahead, Dallas faces teams with strong records that will push them to their limits.
The Cowboys’ upcoming matchups include challenging games against Philly (6-2), Houston (6-3), and Washington (7-2), so they’ll need all the firepower they can muster without their star quarterback. It’s a tough stretch, especially as the team is already missing key players, like Demarcus Lawrence on IR and Micah Parsons, who hasn’t played since Week 4.
Dak’s absence is certainly a big hit to the Cowboys’ morale and roster. For head coach Mike McCarthy, who’s trying to guide his team through a challenging 2024 season, losing their franchise quarterback during this tough stretch only complicates things.
With the Cowboys’ season hanging in the balance, fans are hoping for a quick recovery for Dak and some big performances from the team as they try to pull things together.
