The 22-year-old Murillo remains high on Chelsea’s radar. His contract at Nottingham Forest runs until 2029, which means his current club feels little pressure to sell. Therefore, Chelsea’s earlier bid in January could not be finalised.
Nevertheless, Chelsea’s interest in Murillo has not faded. The club now faces a dilemma because Forest is reluctant to let him go. As a result, the Blues may soon explore alternative options for bolstering their backline.
In addition, Chelsea caused a stir in January by recalling Trevoh Chalobah from his loan at Crystal Palace. This move underscored their urgent need to address defensive shortcomings. Moreover, the club is leaving no stone unturned in its pursuit of a solid centre-back.

Furthermore, instability in Chelsea’s defence has become a major concern. The club lost key figures when Rudiger moved to Real Madrid and Thiago Silva departed. These losses disrupted the stability that once defined their backline.
An experienced scout recently noted that Chelsea now lack defensive consistency. He explained that Rudiger and Thiago Silva once provided a reliable foundation. Today, however, the team struggles to answer defensive challenges on a weekly basis.
The scout added that signing a talent like Murillo would have been a strong boost. He stressed that Chelsea will need more than one addition to mend their defensive issues. Therefore, securing a new centre-back remains absolutely crucial if they want to compete at the highest level.
