Ruben Amorim is one of the best coaches in Portugal and his 3-4-3 has made Sporting a different team, attacking and playing a good football.
The main question is about the time and if he is ready to undertake the Liverpool job. But let’s start with Klopp’s legacy and see what the coach left behind.
Jurgen Klopp started the adventure with Liverpool on 8 Oct 2015 with his famous quote: “I’m the Normal One.” But his journey would be anything but normal with the Reds as he built a new philosophy and a new mentality within the club.
Furthermore, his connection with the fans was an object of study and he managed to bring a squad to the pitch and a highly motivated stadium.
Klopp started with an equalizer against Tottenham on 17 October. He secured the first win against Bournemouth with a solo goal from Nathaniel Clyne in the 17th minute. This goal led to a qualification in the quarters of the EFL Cup at that time. His journey would be a masterpiece.
He managed to send Liverpool to the final of the Europa League in the same season, losing against Sevilla 3-1. He managed to send Liverpool to the UEFA Champions League in the upcoming season. Klopp won the UEFA Champions League in the final against Tottenham in 2019, thanks to a goal from Mohammed Salah with a penalty.

He won the Premier League in the 2019-2020 season finishing 18 points above the second place. These were the two domestic titles he won in Anfield among a Carabao and FA Cup in the 2021/22 season. Klopp won a Community Shield in 2022. He won also the UEFA Super Cup against Chelsea and the FIFA World Cup against Monterrey.
This was the adventure of Klopp as the head coach of Liverpool. So Ruben Amorin comes into play. He is a Portuguese champion in the 2020/21 season with Sporting Lisbon. He has already won Taça da Liga twice in 2021 and 2022 with Sporting. Amorim coached Casa Pia and Braga B before being appointed the first coach of Sporting Lisbon. He has collected more than 150 wins in Portugal and this is a significant achievement for him.
As it stands, he can bring a new philosophy to Anfield and a new playing system. Meanwhile, this can work if he brings new variables to his current playing system.
In Anfield, he would find an ex-Liga Portugal star such as Darwin Nunez. So he has something to work on and already knows some of the players. In addition, Amorim asks for a free policy in the transfer window as this helps the club develop an independent strategy in the players’ market.
It is up to the board to decide on the replacement of Klopp as Amorim looks like a perfect name for the ambitions of the club.
Amorim will be the name that can keep the club consistent and solid for the upcoming years. Now it is the time to let the market decide for this new journey to begin.
