Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin will undergo surgery on the ankle injury.

In the closing moments of the Buccaneers’ Monday Night Football game, the team may have faced a different kind of setback with possible long-term consequences.

Head coach Todd Bowles shared after the game that it looks like wide receiver Chris Godwin may have dislocated his ankle during their 41-31 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

“He’s got an ankle injury, and early signs are that it’s dislocated,” Bowles told reporters. “It doesn’t look good.”

NFL insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported that Godwin is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Tuesday morning to assess the damage before having surgery later this week. Unfortunately, it’s expected that Godwin will miss the rest of the season.

With just about a minute left in the game, Godwin made a 21-yard catch but was tackled by Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith. After staying on the ground for a while, he was taken off the field on a cart with an air cast on his leg. Bowles didn’t confirm if Godwin was taken to a hospital afterward but expressed the team’s support.

“Our prayers go out to him. Chris is not only a great player but an even better person,” Bowles said. “You just feel for him.”

Before his injury, Godwin caught seven passes for 65 yards, bringing his season total to 50 receptions for 576 yards—leading the league in catches through the first seven weeks.

Godwin’s injury was the most significant blow to the Buccaneers, but they also face uncertainty with Mike Evans, their other star receiver. Evans left the game in the second quarter due to a hamstring injury. He, too, is set for an MRI on Tuesday.

The Buccaneers, now 4-3 after the loss, are preparing to face the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, October 27.
