Jerry Jeudy is set to make his return to Denver this Sunday, but not as a Bronco.
Now wearing Cleveland Browns colors, Jeudy has become a pivotal part of their offensive resurgence under quarterback Jameis Winston. In just the last four games, Jeudy has averaged an impressive 94.8 receiving yards per game, ranking fourth in the NFL since Week 8, showcasing the potential Cleveland believed in when they traded for him during the offseason.
Since his arrival in Cleveland, Jeudy has flourished. Initially struggling to find his rhythm in Kevin Stefanski’s offense, Jeudy has emerged as a top target since Winston took over under center. In Week 11, Jeudy torched the New Orleans defense for 142 yards, followed by 85 yards in a snowy, gritty win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Now, Jeudy returns to Denver with momentum, ready to face his former teammates.
“He’s different,” Broncos safety P.J. Locke said about Jeudy, speaking to the Denver Post. “A lot of receivers pace themselves, but Jeudy? He’s full speed all the time and incredibly tough to guard.” Locke even likened Jeudy’s agility to that of a gazelle, marveling at his ability to change direction at full speed.
Jeudy’s path in Denver was anything but smooth. Drafted in the first round in 2020, his time with the Broncos was marked by flashes of brilliance but marred by inconsistency. His best season came in 2022 with 67 receptions, 972 yards, and six touchdowns. However, after Sean Payton took over as head coach in 2023, Jeudy struggled to adapt, and trade rumors swirled before he was eventually moved to Cleveland.

Despite their parting of ways, Payton still acknowledges Jeudy’s skillset. “From a talent standpoint, Jeudy has great hips, great transitions, and a high football IQ,” Payton said. He also noted the chemistry between Winston and Jeudy, highlighting the trust Winston places in him. “Winston will tell a receiver, ‘Go get open, and I’ll find you.’ That’s exactly what Jeudy needs—a quarterback who trusts his ability to create separation.”
This Week 13 matchup is crucial for both teams. The Browns, at 3-8, are looking to play spoiler against a Denver team currently holding the AFC’s seventh playoff spot with a 7-5 record. While the Broncos have a two-game cushion over Indianapolis and Miami, a loss to Cleveland could tighten the playoff race.
The Broncos’ defense will need to be sharp to contain Jeudy, who seems to have found his stride in Cleveland. His speed and route-running ability, coupled with Winston’s aggressive downfield passing, present a serious challenge for Denver’s secondary.
Payton and the Broncos know what’s at stake. Despite Jeudy’s exit from Denver, the Broncos respect his capabilities and understand the threat he poses. A victory would solidify Denver’s playoff positioning, but underestimating Jeudy and the Browns could derail their postseason hopes.
As Sunday’s game approaches, all eyes will be on how Denver’s defense handles Jeudy’s return. Will familiarity with their former teammate help the Broncos, or will Jeudy’s resurgence in Cleveland prove too much to overcome? Either way, this AFC showdown promises to be a test of resilience and adaptability for both sides.
With playoff implications hanging in the balance, Denver must deliver a disciplined, high-energy performance to keep their postseason dreams alive. Meanwhile, the Browns, led by a revitalized Jeudy, aim to shake up the playoff picture and prove that they are far from done this season.
