Brentford have maintained their push for European qualification with a confident performance that keeps them firmly in contention as the season nears its conclusion.
Brentford put in a confident display to beat Nottingham Forest by two goals to nil on Thursday evening. Moreover, the triumph extended their unbeaten run to four matches with two wins and two draws.
Additionally, the result lifted them into comfortable reach of the top eight, keeping European aspirations alive. The closing weeks feature three fixtures against teams below Brentford, which positions them as genuine contenders.
A trip to Manchester United stands out as a stiff test. However, Brentford have managed only one success in twelve head-to-head contests. That triumph came in August 2022 with a memorable four-goal performance at this ground. Thomas Frank’s side also netted four goals in their last home match against Brighton, securing a 4-2 victory. It was their first win at the Gtech Community Stadium since early December. They had previously drawn three and lost six games there.
Meanwhile, Manchester United may rest key players given their Europa League semi-final against Athletic Club. The Red Devils swept aside Athletic Club three-nil in the first leg to edge closer to the final.
Remarkably, boss Ruben Amorim has now recorded six victories and two draws in Europe. He has matched that total in the Premier League with six wins, six draws and eleven defeats.
Consequently, United have won only three of their last twenty-one away league fixtures against London opponents. They drew five and lost thirteen of those games.
Moreover, another setback would leave them without a Premier League win in six successive matches. That would be the first time such a drought has occurred since December 2015.
Players to watch include Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa, both one goal shy of the twelve-goal club record. Meanwhile, rotation could hand Mason Mount a rare start at the ground where he scored his only goal last season.
Interestingly, three of Manchester United’s last five goals against Brentford arrived after the 90th minute.
