Ben Shelton shares the emotions of winning after the battle with Tiafoe.

Ben Shelton was very emotional after his winning in four sets 2-6;6-3;6-7;2-6 against Francis Tiafoe in the quarter-finals of the US Open.

The young tennis player was the fastest on the court and had incredible speed in both forehand and backhand. Even for an experienced player like Tiafoe, it was difficult overcoming him and be able to turn the match in his favor. Shelton said these words after the game:

“I feel like I left it all out here tonight. Emotional battle and thanks all you guys for staying so late. Hell of an atmosphere. And thanks for pushing me over the line.”

“Sometimes you gotta shut off the brain close your eyes and just swing and maybe it was a little bit of that down set point, but ended up working out. Some may say clutch but, I don’t know about all that.”

Shelton confessed about the communication with his dad during the whole game and the way the young player sees things. His victory is very important and sets up a new high point in his career.

“He was pretty calm. He knows when I need a little pick-me-up and he knows when he needs to reel a little bit when I’m getting out of control and he does a great job. All of them do, so thank you guys.”

We like to say that the Shelton box has good vibes and it’s definitely had good vibes this tournament, so thank you all. There is a big crew over there and there are others in the crowd too. I love all of you guys.

The next match against Novak Djokovic will be one of the toughest of his career and Shelton has the right tempo and mentality to face these kinds of games. In spite of his young age his win 1-3 against Tiafoe made the fans adore his game. But he has more to show as the semi will be the real test for him.
