Arsenal’s January transfer plans: Kiwior exit, defensive targets, and Isak ambitions.

Arsenal are reportedly open to selling defender Jakub Kiwior in the upcoming January transfer window.

After joining the Gunners in January 2023 as left-back cover during an injury crisis, Kiwior has had limited chances to play this season and could be on his way out.

Kiwior’s lack of playing time has left him frustrated, especially with Riccardo Calafiori, who joined from Bologna over the summer, moving ahead of him in the lineup. With interest from clubs like Inter Milan and Villarreal, Arsenal seem ready to let him leave but are looking to make it a permanent deal rather than a loan.

The Gunners are reportedly asking for at least €20 million for Kiwior. Inter Milan, who Arsenal face in the Champions League, have shown interest, along with Villarreal, who registered their interest earlier in the summer.

So far this season, Kiwior has only played 96 minutes in the Premier League and hasn’t started a game. A return to Serie A, where he performed well with Spezia, might just be the right move for him to get his career back on track.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are exploring options to strengthen their defense even further. They already have a solid backline with players like Calafiori, Gabriel Magalhaes, William Saliba, and Ben White, but Mikel Arteta reportedly wants even more competition.

One of Arsenal’s targets is Palmeiras center-back Reis. Although his release clause is set at a hefty €100 million, Arsenal would likely try to negotiate a more affordable price if they pursue the Brazilian defender.

Arsenal are also keeping tabs on Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace, though Liverpool and Newcastle are currently considered frontrunners to sign the English center-back. Newcastle previously had four bids rejected for Guehi over the summer, with the latest bid reportedly hitting £65 million.

On the midfield front, Arsenal are eyeing Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Larsson as a potential signing in January. Liverpool and Tottenham are also fans of the 20-year-old, but Arsenal might have the edge in landing him, with a possible bid around €40 million on the table.

Mikel Arteta is also looking to strengthen Arsenal’s attack. Alexander Isak of Newcastle has emerged as their “dream target,” with sources indicating that he’s interested in joining a club consistently competing for trophies.

While Newcastle would like to keep Isak long-term, Arsenal’s Champions League ambitions could be enticing for the Swedish striker, who may feel Newcastle’s progress hasn’t been as quick as expected. However, with a price tag likely to exceed £100 million, Arsenal would need a massive bid to bring him in.
If Arsenal does decide to go after Isak, the forward might seriously consider making the move.
