Andre Onana: We speak about everything at Man Utd.

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana recently opened up about the team’s efforts to take responsibility for their slow start to the season.

In an interview with Sky Sports News, he shared how the players are working together to fix mistakes and improve, rather than relying solely on the coaching staff.

Onana explained that there’s constant communication within the team about everything from defending set-pieces to improving their attack. “We talk about goals, mistakes, free kicks, corners—how to defend them and how to attack them,” he said. “At the end of the day, when we step onto the pitch, it’s all about winning.”

He added that the team’s unity is crucial, especially during tough times. “Clean sheets are always on our minds, and we know if we can keep the opposition from scoring, our forwards, like Rashford, will do their part. We’re all in this together,” he shared, even mentioning how Rashford jokes with him after scoring, reminding him that it’s his turn to deliver a clean sheet.

Staying Together as a team

Onana emphasized the importance of staying together as a team, despite the pressure from external critics. “In football and life, challenges are always there. You just have to fight your way through them. When things aren’t going well, we stick together because that’s the only way to solve it,” he said. He’s confident that the team can turn things around, noting, “We’ve already shown in the past that we can beat anyone. We just have to stay focused.”

Despite constant criticism around Manchester United’s performances, Onana remains unfazed. “Playing for a big club like Manchester United comes with a lot of pressure, but we can’t control what others say. We focus on what we can control—our training, our matches, and winning games. People will always talk, and we just keep doing our thing.”

With a busy schedule ahead, including a Europa League match against Fenerbahce, a Premier League game at West Ham, and a Carabao Cup tie against Leicester, Onana is optimistic that recent improvements in their defense will help them through this period. “We’re becoming more compact and in control, which is what we need. Our defense is doing great, and we’re taking things one step at a time.”

He also acknowledged that while they strive to play dominant, risk-taking football, the team understands that mistakes are part of the game. “Sometimes mistakes happen, but that’s part of life. What matters is learning from them and sticking to the philosophy that got us here in the first place.”
