NBA’s Trailblazer Jason Collins Battles Brain Tumor

Former NBA player Jason Collins, a pioneer for LGBTQ+ athletes, is undergoing treatment for a brain tumor, as announced by his family.

Collins, the league’s first openly gay player and a current ambassador, has the basketball community rallying around him. The Houston Rockets’ 2001 pick, swiftly traded to the New Jersey Nets, is now facing a different kind of opponent.

The Nets, where Collins spent a notable part of his 13-year NBA career, expressed solidarity on social media. This 7-foot center’s journey included stints with the Grizzlies, Timberwolves, Celtics, Hawks, and Wizards.

Over 735 games, Collins made 477 starts, leaving a mark with his 3.6 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. His shooting percentages, 41.1% from the field and 64.7% from the line, reflect his contributions on the court.
