The Dallas Mavericks have decided to waive 2023 first-round pick Olivier-Maxence Prosper after just two seasons, making a bold move in 2025.
The Mavericks are parting ways with the Canadian forward, known as ‘O-Max,’ who never quite secured a consistent role during his time with the team. Despite being selected as the 24th overall pick in the 2023 draft, Prosper struggled to cement himself in the Mavericks’ rotation.
Last season, he saw limited playing time, averaging just 11.2 minutes across 54 games while contributing 3.9 points and 2.4 rebounds per game. With the team’s roster constraints and salary cap considerations, the decision to waive Prosper was necessary to free up space.
Due to the Mavericks’ financial commitments, including the signings of players like D’Angelo Russell and Dante Exum, they were forced to make tough choices before the season began. Prosper’s salary of over $3 million for the 2025-26 season made him a casualty of the team’s cap situation.
By utilizing the stretch provision, the Mavericks will spread Prosper’s remaining salary over the next three seasons, easing their cap burden. While O-Max showed potential, the team ultimately opted to prioritize financial flexibility and roster efficiency moving forward.
