Darren Waller’s Impending Comeback Sparks Excitement in Miami
Miami Dolphins head coach gave fans plenty of optimism that recently acquired tight end Darren Waller could be ready for Week 1. The Dolphins made a surprising trade for Waller back on July 1, sending a 2026 sixth-round draft pick to the Giants. Waller last played NFL football in 2023, catching 52 passes for 552 yards and one touchdown over 12 games before deciding to hang up his uniform due to a third straight injury-slowed season. That one season in the Meadowlands was supposed to be it for Waller. Now, he’s an unretired star in search of a successful comeback.
Waller took a major step toward that goal last week, as the 6-foot-6 tight end was activated from the PUP list and got in light activity on the practice field. The Dolphins are hoping for big things from the one-time Pro-Bowler, who amassed just under 200 receptions for nearly 2,400 yards across the 2019 and 2020 seasons for the Raiders. Granted, those uber-productive seasons were a long time ago in football terms, but McDaniel has stated that he’s ”looking forward.
