Lakers Boost Frontcourt with Shot-Blocking Center Signing

The Los Angeles Lakers have made a strategic move by acquiring 7-foot center Kylor Kelley to enhance their defensive presence in the paint.

Known for his shot-blocking prowess, Kelley’s signing brings depth and skill to the Lakers’ frontcourt. His impressive track record includes leading the G League in blocks during the 2023-24 season with 85 rejections while playing for the Maine Celtics. Additionally, Kelley earned a spot on the 2024 G League All-Defensive Team after showcasing his defensive abilities with averages of 8.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.9 blocks per game on an impressive 68.6 shooting percentage.

With his exceptional length, timing, and mobility, Kelley provides valuable insurance for the Lakers as they continue to refine their interior rotation. While he may start by featuring for the South Bay Lakers in the G League under the Exhibit 10 contract, there is optimism about his potential to compete for a spot on the NBA roster.

Notably, this is not Kelley’s first stint with the Lakers organization. Having previously been part of their developmental system, Kelley gained NBA experience last season with appearances for the Dallas Mavericks and New Orleans Pelicans. In limited playing time, he showcased his versatility by averaging 3.1 points and 3.5 rebounds, demonstrating his readiness for the professional stage.
