Washington Commanders Donate AEDs to D.C. Public Schools for Student Athletes’ Safety

The Washington Commanders are ensuring the safety of D.C. student athletes by donating Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and providing hands-on training.

In a proactive move to protect young athletes, the Commanders recently donated 12 AEDs to D.C. Public Schools. The donation was accompanied by a lively training session at Coolidge High School, where football players, cheerleaders, and athletes from various sports immersed themselves in learning CPR techniques set to the rhythm of the Bee Gees’ iconic tune, ‘Stayin’ Alive’.

Making the event even more engaging was the presence of Major Tuddy, the team’s beloved mascot, who added a fun touch to the serious matter of heart health and safety. His participation served as a reminder to the students that being prepared for emergencies is as crucial as displaying spirit on game days.

Partnering with Simon’s Heart, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting heart health, the Commanders demonstrated their commitment to not only excelling on the field but also ensuring the well-being of the community they represent. The collaboration between the team and Simon’s Heart underscores the importance of proactive measures in safeguarding the health and lives of young athletes.

By equipping D.C. Public Schools with AEDs, the Commanders have taken a significant step towards creating a safer environment for student athletes. In moments of crisis, having access to these life-saving devices can make all the difference in providing immediate assistance and potentially saving lives.

The hands-on training session at Coolidge High School was a dynamic experience that empowered students with essential life-saving skills. As they practiced using AEDs and learned CPR techniques, the young athletes not only gained valuable knowledge but also developed the confidence to act swiftly in emergency situations.

Events like these not only benefit the individuals directly involved but also have a ripple effect on the entire community. By prioritizing the safety and well-being of student athletes, the Washington Commanders are setting a commendable example for other sports organizations to follow, emphasizing the importance of preparedness and proactive measures in ensuring the health of young competitors.
