West Ham can end their five‑game winless run with a strong home display against relegated Southampton and lift spirits at 17th in the table.
West Ham produced a spirited display at Premier League leaders Liverpool but fell to a 2-1 defeat. That result extended their winless run to five matches.
Unfortunately, West Ham supporters have grown frustrated as the team sits 17th in the table. It is their lowest position at this stage of a campaign since relegation in 2010/11.
Consequently, since January, Graham Potter has struggled to lift the squad, and only three teams have collected fewer than twelve points.
However, an opportunity awaits as Southampton visit their home ground. West Ham have lost just one of their last twelve matches against Southampton. They have also won every home game this season against sides starting the weekend in fourteenth place or lower.
Nonetheless, Southampton’s early relegation leaves them chasing history to avoid the lowest points total in Premier League competition. Simon Rusk’s men sit just one point behind Derby’s record of eleven points from 2007–08.
Despite two penalty saves from Aaron Ramsdale, Southampton fell 3-0 to Aston Villa last week. Their eighty‑one percent loss rate remains the highest in top‑flight history.
Moreover, Southampton have won only once on the road in the Premier League since February 2023. They conceded exactly three goals in four of their last six visits to West Ham.
Niclas Füllkrug could earn his first start since the turn of the year after scoring in West Ham’s last home win. Meanwhile, Ramsdale’s heroics may prove vital once more against the Hammers.
Interestingly, none of the last twenty Premier League meetings at West Ham’s home ground have ended as draws. West Ham claimed fifteen wins and suffered five defeats in that run.
Ultimately, with all factors aligned, West Ham need a commanding display to end their miserable season on a high note. The home faithful will demand nothing less.
