Liverpool manager Arne Slot faces a two-game touchline ban following a red card incident during the 2-2 Premier League draw at Goodison Park on 12 February.
He incurred the punishment after he approached referee Michael Oliver in a heated moment.
Slot aggressively confronted Michael Oliver on the pitch, a move that immediately cost him his position. His actions sparked controversy and set the tone for what became one of the match’s most dramatic episodes.
The manager now misses crucial fixtures. He will be absent for the league leaders’ home clash against Newcastle on Wednesday and the visit of Southampton on 8 March. Slot may return to guide his team for the Champions League last-16 first-leg tie with Paris St-Germain on 5 March.
The independent Football Association commission fined Slot £70,000 after he accepted the charge. Assistant coach Sipke Hulshoff received a two-game ban along with a £7,000 fine. Both Liverpool and Everton faced hefty fines—£65,000 and £50,000 respectively—for failing to control their players.
James Tarkowski’s 98th-minute equaliser ignited chaotic scenes on the pitch. Everton fans stormed the field to celebrate, while Liverpool contended that officials should have ruled out the goal because a push on Ibrahima Konate tainted the build-up, according to VAR.

After the equaliser, Slot exchanged words with an assistant referee before shaking hands with Michael Oliver. Oliver promptly issued a red card to Slot, and assistant coach Hulshoff also exited the pitch, adding to the match’s disorder.
Slot did not speak to the media immediately after the match due to his red card. He later expressed his frustration over the five minutes of stoppage time initially signalled. In a press conference two days later, he admitted, “Emotions got the better of me.”
Everton’s Abdoulaye Doucoure and Liverpool’s Curtis Jones both received second yellow cards and will serve one-game bans. Slot will return to the dugout after the international break, with his first domestic match back coming when Liverpool face Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final on 16 March. Liverpool, who hold an 11-point lead in the Premier League, will also host Everton at Anfield on 2 April. Slot previously served a touchline ban during the EFL Cup quarter-final against Southampton in December after collecting three yellow cards.
