Everton are close to appointing David Weir as their new sporting director. Manager David Moyes drives the effort to bring the former captain back to Goodison Park.

Weir, 54, boasts a distinguished playing career with Everton. He made 266 appearances between 1999 and 2007 before moving to Rangers.

He returned to Goodison Park in 2012 to coach the reserve and academy teams. His coaching journey also includes roles at Sheffield United, Brentford, Rangers, and Nottingham Forest.

Everton stand on the brink of finalizing the deal for Weir. They will secure this transfer guru soon, a move that excites fans and staff alike.

The club posted impressive financial results in recent seasons. In 2024–25, they recorded a €33.5 million profit; in 2023–24, €42.3 million; in 2022–23, €20.5 million; and in 2021–22, €6.5 million after a €70 million spend in 2020–21.

Everton have battled recruitment challenges on a tight budget and narrowly escaped relegation in the last three campaigns. Current director of football Kevin Thelwell manages the squad while The Friedkin Group plans a major overhaul.

Carlos Alcaraz arrived on loan from Flamengo in January as the club’s sole signing that window. Everton may revisit their interest in Rayan Cherki and eye Ernest Nuamah this summer, building on 13 points from their last five Premier League games as they set their sights on safety.
