Marco Asensio on Aston Villa’s Radar as PSG Open to Loan Move

Marco Asensio could soon be making a move to Aston Villa, with the Premier League club eager to strengthen their attacking options before the transfer deadline on February 3.

Villa manager Unai Emery is targeting a number of key players, including Asensio, to bolster his squad following the impending departure of top scorer Jhon Duran, who is set to complete a £64.5 million transfer to Al-Nassr.

Asensio, currently under contract with Paris Saint-Germain until June 2026, has been a long-term target for Villa. The Spanish international joined PSG from Real Madrid in July 2023 but has found himself struggling for regular minutes at the French club, making just seven goals in 47 appearances across all competitions. Despite his pedigree and ability, he has been an unused substitute in three of PSG’s last four matches, prompting the club to make him available for a loan move in the January window.

Aston Villa is confident that securing Asensio on a loan deal would be a relatively straightforward process, with both parties reportedly open to the idea. The winger’s experience, including three UEFA Champions League titles with Real Madrid, would provide Villa with a valuable boost, especially as they continue their campaign in Europe. Villa recently secured their spot in the round of 16 of the Champions League, defeating Celtic 4-2 in the final game of the group phase.

Unai Emery is keen to add attacking depth, with other potential targets including Chelsea’s Joao Felix, Wolves’ Matheus Cunha, and Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel. Asensio, however, remains high on Villa’s wishlist due to his versatility and experience at the highest level of European football. The Spanish forward could offer Villa the creative spark they need in the final third, especially in the absence of Duran.

PSG, who are currently struggling in Ligue 1, have been open to parting ways with Asensio, having offered him to several clubs this winter. His lack of involvement in recent matches has raised questions about his future at the club, and a move to Villa could provide a fresh start for the 29-year-old. While PSG remains focused on the upcoming Champions League knockout stage against Benfica, the French giants are keen to offload Asensio and free up space in their squad.

With just days left in the transfer window, Villa’s pursuit of Asensio is one of the key developments to watch. The Midlands club is looking to ensure that their squad is ready for the remainder of the season, both domestically and in Europe. If the deal goes through, Asensio would become an important addition to an already talented Villa side, bringing experience and quality to their attacking options.
