The Reds are after Aurelien Tchouameni as a possible swap for Trent.

Liverpool fans might be buzzing with fresh transfer news, as rumors swirl about a possible pursuit of Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni.

The Frenchman, once heavily courted by the Reds, could be back on Liverpool’s radar if Real Madrid’s rumored interest in selling him proves true. But how serious is Liverpool’s stance on this potential deal?

Back in the summer of 2022, Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp made a serious effort to bring Tchouameni to Anfield from Monaco. Klopp even personally called the midfielder multiple times, showing just how eager he was to bring him into the fold. Unfortunately for the Reds, Tchouameni ultimately chose Real Madrid over Liverpool. The setback was particularly frustrating since Liverpool also lost out on Jude Bellingham to Real Madrid the following year.

Liverpool’s hunt for a top-notch midfielder didn’t stop there, though. They faced yet another disappointment this past summer when Martin Zubimendi chose to stay with Real Sociedad rather than make the switch to Anfield. Although there were whispers that Liverpool might reignite their interest in Zubimendi this January, those rumors have cooled down. Even so, well-known journalist Paul Gorst hinted that Tchouameni could be back on the table for the Reds.

On RedMen TV, Gorst suggested Liverpool’s interest in Tchouameni might not be over. “Liverpool’s interest doesn’t go away easily,” he said, explaining that the club scouts carefully, and when they like a player, that interest tends to stick. Tchouameni’s abilities have been on Liverpool’s radar for more than two years, so if Madrid is indeed open to offers, it wouldn’t be surprising if Liverpool made a move.

It seems Tchouameni’s style and talent are still something Liverpool value highly. With Real Madrid president Florentino Perez allegedly eyeing Manchester City’s Rodri as a potential replacement, Tchouameni’s future at the Bernabeu could indeed be in question. If Real Madrid is willing to part ways with Tchouameni, Liverpool could swoop in for a fresh bid.

Klopp’s admiration for Tchouameni was no secret at the time of Liverpool’s initial pursuit. Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano noted that Klopp made multiple calls to the player. However, Madrid’s plans to build a stacked midfield made it tough for Liverpool. Even as recently as this past summer, Liverpool reportedly inquired again about Tchouameni, but the response from Madrid seemed to be a firm “no.”

Sources hint that Real might be more open to listening to offers for Tchouameni down the line, and Liverpool seems to be monitoring the situation closely. However, their summer recruitment, including players like Ryan Gravenberch and Curtis Jones stepping up in midfield, has taken some pressure off this position. Klopp’s immediate focus may be shifting to other areas.

In particular, Liverpool is said to be prioritizing reinforcements at left-back and center-back. Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez has been cited as a potential target to bolster Liverpool’s left-back options, while the search for a long-term successor to Virgil van Dijk remains active. With a strong foundation in midfield for now, it’s these defensive areas that might see more movement.

One intriguing rumor also involved a potential swap deal with Real Madrid. Some reports suggested Madrid might try to use Tchouameni in a trade for Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold. While this was quickly dismissed by key journalists, Real Madrid’s interest in Alexander-Arnold hasn’t disappeared.

Liverpool is keen to tie Alexander-Arnold down to a new contract, but as of yet, no agreement has been reached. This has only fueled speculation that the English right-back might eventually make a move to Madrid, possibly as a free agent after this season. Madrid’s interest is rivaled by clubs like Barcelona and Bayern Munich, but sources suggest Real Madrid remains the front-runner if a deal does happen.

Another potential departure for Liverpool could be their talisman Mo Salah. Reports have emerged indicating that Salah might be leaving Anfield next summer, which would mark a significant shift in the club’s lineup and fan dynamics. To prepare for this, Liverpool appears to be on the lookout for an appropriate replacement.

German reports claim that Liverpool has “officially registered their interest” in a prolific Bundesliga forward who could be a suitable successor to Salah. Although names have yet to surface, the link to a top Bundesliga striker is enough to get fans speculating.

In addition to targeting Salah’s potential replacement, Liverpool is also rumored to be interested in a young “generational talent.” This teenage star, valued at around €50 million, is apparently catching Liverpool’s eye as a potential future sensation, and they might even be competing with Arsenal for his signature.

If Liverpool can pull off these moves, it could mark a fresh chapter for the team. Fans will be eager to see if Klopp’s lineup in 2025 includes some of these big names, whether that’s Tchouameni, a Bundesliga forward, or even this emerging “generational” prospect.

So as January’s transfer window approaches, Liverpool supporters have plenty of reasons to be hopeful. The return of Tchouameni as a potential target could bring a skillful midfielder to Anfield, while the pursuit of new talents ensures Klopp’s squad stays competitive and fresh.
