The Kansas City Chiefs are the last undefeated team in the 2024 NFL season with a 6-0 record!
Even though the Chiefs haven’t been firing on all cylinders offensively, this marks the third time under head coach Andy Reid that they’ve been the last team standing without a loss (previously in 2013 and 2017). However, in both of those seasons, the Chiefs were knocked out in the Wild Card Round. Reid also led the Philadelphia Eagles to an undefeated start in 2004 (7-0), but they lost in the Super Bowl to the Patriots that year.
Interestingly, this is the first time the Chiefs have been the last undefeated team with Patrick Mahomes as the full-time starting quarterback.

Starting the season 6-0 is definitely a great sign for playoff chances—historically, 95.2% of teams that go 6-0 make the postseason. However, being the last undefeated team doesn’t guarantee a Super Bowl win. Only 10 times in the past 58 seasons (1966-2023) has the last undefeated team gone on to win it all, with the most recent being the 2006 Indianapolis Colts.
In fact, it’s been 17 seasons since the last undefeated team won the Super Bowl, a drought nearly three times longer than the previous one (six seasons from 2000-2005). The last time a reigning Super Bowl champ was also the last undefeated team was in 2011, when Aaron Rodgers’ Green Bay Packers started 13-0 but lost in the Divisional Round to the eventual champions, the New York Giants.
Despite Mahomes being tied for the most interceptions in the NFL this season with eight, the Chiefs have still managed their 6-0 start. The only other team to achieve that since the 1970 merger, with a QB leading the league in INTs, was the 2015 Denver Broncos with Peyton Manning—and they went on to win the Super Bowl, thanks to their dominant defense. Could history repeat itself? Chiefs fans are certainly hoping so!
